What is an IRS automated adjustment?

If the Internal Revenue Service thinks your income tax return is inaccurate but that a full-blown audit isn’t required, the IRS may send you an automated adjustment notice. The notice explains what the IRS thinks is wrong on your return and how much more money you owe.

You have the right to appeal, but you must do so within 60 days.
