Answer: Taxes, Credits, General

Can I get a credit for my expenses for adopting a child?

The adoption credit pays you back your adoption expenses dollar for dollar, up to the limit. You can claim a credit of up to $11,650 of adoption expenses per child in 2008.

The credit is phased out at high income levels. In 2008, it begins to be phased out when your adjusted gross income moves past $174,730. In 2009, the adoption credit limit rises to $12,150 and begins to phase out when income exceeds $182,180.
