What are stock dividends?

As a common shareholder, you are entitled to share in company profits when they are distributed. These distributions are called dividends and may be in the form of cash, more stock or other property. Most companies that pay dividends do so quarterly.

Not all companies pay dividends, especially if they are in a growth stage and are reinvesting their earnings in the company.
