Answer: Family & College, Planning for College, Saving for College

How should I start planning for my child’s college education?

First, try to estimate how much it’s going to cost and what resources you have. Consider all your family’s financial objectives and long-term financial plans. Don’t put so much into your children’s education that you can’t save for your own retirement.

If your kids’ grandparents are able financially and are interested emotionally in the kids’ education, include them in your planning.

To estimate how much you’ll need to save, use the Tuition Savings Calculator in MSN Money’s Family & College section.
