Answer: Family & College, Children, Family Limited Partnerships

How much allowance should I pay my grade-schooler?

As your children grow, so do their expenses -- and so should their weekly allowance if they are responsible for paying expenses from it. Grade-schoolers can begin to assume responsibility for their own club dues, hobby materials, sports equipment, and friends’ presents. Some parents give enough allowance to cover necessary expenses such as lunch and clothing, while others prefer to pay these separately so that the child isn’t tempted to spend money earmarked for necessities on frivolous things.
