The investment seeks current income. The fund invests at least 80% of assets in U.S. government securities, including U.S. treasury bills, notes, bonds, strips and other debt securities issued by the U.S. treasury, and obligations, including mortgage-related securities, issued or guaranteed by U.S. government agencies or instrumentalities. It normally invests up to 20% of assets in money market instruments, including commercial paper of U.S. companies, short-term obligations of banks, certificates of deposit, and banker's acceptances. The fund may invest in foreign bank debt.
