With supply tight, rates low and the economy recovering, the only real check on sales in 2004 may be the shocking price tags. See how your home town stands.
By Elizabeth Razzi, Kiplinger
See how average existing-home prices have increased where you live and compare one-, three- and five-year appreciation rates for more than 300 metropolitan areas across the United States.
The metro areas themselves cover a lot of ground. For example, prices for Washington, D.C., include addresses not only in the District of Columbia, but also in its Maryland and Virginia suburbs.
Existing-home values are based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau. This information is paired with price-appreciation trends that represent gains in value for a typical existing home as reported by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.
